BOTOX® Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin Type A)
Purified Neurotoxin Complex

Manufactured by: Allergan

For Intramuscular Injection Only
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Description:

BOTOX® injections utilize Botulinum Toxin Type A to treat wrinkles. BOTOX® Injections were originally approved and used as an effective treatment for a number of neurological disorders caused by overactive muscles. Nowadays, BOTOX® injections are widely used for treatment of facial lines, especially frown lines, "crow's feet," and forehead lines.   Depo- Medrol can be used to treat many different types of health problems. Joint pain is just one of the conditions it can help.

Indications/Usage:

The procedure takes only a few minutes and no anesthesia is required. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. It generally takes three to seven days to take full effect and it is best to avoid alcohol at least one week prior to treatment. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks before treatment as well in order to reduce bruising.

Precautions:

Botox should not be administered to pregnant and/or nursing women since there are no well-controlled and no adequate researches about it just yet. If a woman becomes pregnant just after a Botox treatment, she should be informed of the possible risks that may adversely affect the developing baby in her womb. An immediate medical check-up with the OB-GYN should help determine if the fetus is developing normally despite the presence of the toxin. Patients with neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton Syndrome or ALS should not be administered with Botox. These patients are at high risk of being inflicted with the side effects of Botox Cosmetic. Patients which have allergies on the area to be treated should not be given Botox injections. These allergies may be aggravated and possible side effects may cause adverse chemical reactions that can further damage the skin. Certain medicines may react negatively and can increase the risk of Botox side effects. Discuss your medical history and the list of medicines that you are taking with the doctor prior to the Botox treatment.

Antibiotics such as tobramycin, clindamycin, lincomycin and gentamicin can increase the risk of Botox side effects. Medicines for Alzheimer's disease, myasthenia gravis and heart disease (such as quinidine), have certain reactions with Botox that can increase the risk of side effects. Over-the-counter and herbal medicines have no known chemical reactions with Botox, so it is important that you discuss the medicines you are taking prior to your treatment of Botox Cosmetic.

Side Effects:

It is always practical to review the BOTOX injection side effects and procedures so that any BOTOX® injection danger is known and understood. Common side effects vary depending on treated area. The most common side effects of injections around the eyes and in the face include temporary bruising, eyelid drooping, dry eyes, and double vision. Facial droop can occur with injections into the cheek. You should consult with your doctor for full detail.

Less frequent side effects of BOTOX adverse reactions included pain in the face, swelling at the injection site, and muscle weakness. These events are thought to be associated with the injection and occurred within the first week.

People with cardiovascular disease and neuromuscular disorders should consult with their physician carefully before having a BOTOX injection treatment, as cardiovascular problems may arise.

It is advised that you contact your doctor and seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following: difficulty in breathing, swallowing, or speaking; hives, swelling including swelling of the face or throat, wheezing, feeling faint and shortness of breath (possible symptoms of severe allergic reaction).
