Description:
Durolane
is a clear, thick and flexible gel made from a form of a
naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid, which is
the body's own joint lubricant. It has been designed
specifically for injection into joints affected by
osteoarthritis (knee and hip), to provide lubrication and
cushioning. Durolane is different from other products
containing hyaluronic acid that are used to treat
osteoarthritis, as it is contains Non-Animal Stabilized
Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA). This is a substance with greatly
improved features compared with older hyaluronic acid
products.
Indications/Usage:
Durolane can be used for the treatment of
both knee and hip osteoarthritis. The main advantage is that
you will only need one injection for pain relief. This is due
to the special properties of NASHA - our competitors' products
need to be injected 3-5 times per course of treatment.
Durolane is injected into the liquid in your joint (known as
the synovial fluid). The effects of one injection can last for
at least 3 months.
Side Effects:
The
only side-effects are those that you would normally expect
with an injection, typically knee pain and mild swelling.
These are usually short-lived, disappearing 2 days or so after
treatment. There have been no side-effects caused by Durolane
itself.
